Leaving a place you’ve called home for 16 years can be daunting. Singapore, a vibrant city-state bursting with diversity and opportunities, has captured the hearts of countless expatriates. As a black ex-pat who fell in love, married, and raised a family here, I have experienced a unique bond with this remarkable country. In this blog post, I’ll share my heartfelt reflections on why saying goodbye to Singapore is so incredibly difficult.

I found solace and comfort in Singapore’s nurturing environment, which provided an exceptional foundation for my family’s growth and happiness. Singapore’s location allowed my family and I to travel often and with ease. Upon each return, I truly felt a welcoming homecoming.
Love truly knows no boundaries. Love brought me to Singapore, and it is the love I found here that makes leaving so heart-wrenching. When I met my partner, we embarked on a journey filled with shared experiences, cherished memories, and the joy of building a life together. Having a blended family and interracial marriage in Singapore was a blessing. Singapore became the backdrop of our love story, weaving its way into the fabric of our relationship.
Singapore’s reputation as a global financial and business hub provides countless opportunities for personal and professional growth. The city-state’s commitment to innovation, family, education, and entrepreneurship creates an environment that fosters success and opens doors to new possibilities. My time here allowed me to expand my horizons as a wife, mother and earn a doctorate. The sanctuary of opportunities allowed my software executive husband to grow both personally and career-wise, and that is something I will forever be grateful for.
Over the years, Singapore has become an integral part of my identity. The experiences, traditions, and memories I have woven into the tapestry of my life here cannot easily be replicated elsewhere. From the vibrant multicultural festivals to the mouthwatering local cuisine, every aspect of Singapore has left an indelible mark on my heart, making it incredibly hard to bid farewell. I have embraced the unforgettable and created the most precious of memories.
